You can always dream

I know that I only invested in a new camera about four months ago (and believe me, I haven’t regretted it for a second), but there will always be certain pieces of equipment that you can’t stop thinking about. I can’t yet justify another camera body purchase, but I will at some point in my life get a Leica M9. Or perhaps the new Leica M…

I used this camera at a wedding in Bournemouth a few years ago, as the photographer I was working with had recently bought one. It was amazingly light and absolutely perfect for those close-up detail shots of flowers, jewellery, desserts and drinks. It takes some time to get used to the rangefinder, but somehow this camera makes you approach photography in a completely different way. You don’t just fire away, even though it is a digital camera, and you tend to consider your composition more carefully, which is most likely because it takes a little longer to focus. It feels so delicate in your hands and barely makes a sound when you press the shutter. I just adored it. I can’t for the life of me remember what type of lens I was using but I think it was a Zeiss or Leica 50mm f/1.4 or f/1.2.

Someday you will be mine.
