I’ve been wanting to get a bit more courageous when it comes to approaching strangers in the street and taking their portraits, and thought I’d start out by shooting some candids around Edinburgh city centre. My theme was basically people that make their living on these streets, in one way or another.
I’m looking forward to August when the Fringe festival will be happening again, the city is always packed with people from all over the world during this month. I’m going to get some business cards ready, head out in the crowds, look for genuine reactions, uninhibited laughters and interesting characters. I prefer these type of portraits when the subject isn’t looking into the camera, although that might be because I haven’t really done much street photography where the person actually knows I am taking their picture. We’ll see how that goes!
