50mm f/1.4 or f/1.8?

I recently tried out my boyfriend’s Canon 7D with a 50mm f/1.4 and I am so in love with the shallow depth of field created by this magnificent lens. I am thinking about getting a Nikkor version, but I am still not sure if I can justify spending almost £300 on the f/1.4 version when the f/1.8 is around £90… I mean, is the minimal difference worth an extra £200? If anyone has used both of them, please let me know what your opinion is.

I am currently planning a few portrait shoots in Edinburgh. I’ve been scouting locations that I think would be suitable for the style I want to achieve and I think it’s going to be lots of fun.

The China photos are coming along nicely but it’s hard finding the time to finish editing them. I will try to get in gear and edit a bit more diligently over the next few weeks though, so that I can showcase this project here. Really looking forward to showing you these photos!

The gallery today is taken with the 7D + 50mm f/1.4 when I was playing around with the aperture.
